Ladakh CyclingAlertness, activity and accuracy are the virtues of a cyclist as he/she rests his/her weight on the saddle and wheel through the rough and zigzagged roads of Ladakh. Ladakh provides wonderful opportunities for a cycling enthusiast who dreams of cycling through the highest mountain range in the world. The fascinating Buddhist Gompas lures the cyclists to the quaint small villages while the snow-capped Himalayas provide a stunning backdrop. There are ample of treks to be covered by cyclists of all levels, though ones venturing for more barren and high areas need to be more trained and technically perfect. One may also hire a support car to carry one's while peddling through some of the highest passes of the world. The ideal season of cycling ranges from mid-June to September.

The 64 km stretch from Leh to Alchi presents a challenge to a biker with its winding course and hairpin turns. Another favored route among the bicyclists is the 45 km stretch from Leh to Hemis. One may get some stunning views of the majestic gompas of Thiksey, Shey and Stok as one peddles on the main road from Leh. Most of the cycle circuit follows the bank of River Indus until Karu where one crosses the bridge to reach the village of Hemis. The highest motorable pass known as Khardungla can be chosen as well as the trips of Jispa-Gondla and Marhi-Manali is also worth considering.
