Tso Moriri Lake Tour

Tso Moriri means "the mountain lake". & is 240 kms, from the Leh. The lake is 28 kms. long and 8 kms. at its widest. This lake situated in the middle of the elevated valley of Rupshu surrounded by 6000 mt. peaks.The few barley-fields at Korzok are believed to be among the highest cultivation grounds in the world, although there is no guarantee that the crop will ripen every year. The main feature of this area are the nomadic people and wild-life.

It is a good place to see Wild Ass, Marmots, Redfox and the rare, highly endangered Snow Leopard. Large flocks of Black-necked Geese also can be seen around the lake. Also visit the 350 years old Karzok monastery (4,572 m), which has about 33 resident monks. Karzok monastery belongs to the yellow sect & is the only permanent settlement in Rupshu.

Tour

Duration : 06 Days / 05 Nights

The tour takes you to Rupsu Valley located south east of Leh on the road from Manali to Leh, at an altitude ranging from 4,000 to 5,000 m. The valley is inhabited by a small population of Changpas - nomadic shepherds who also engage in trade and work the caravans between Ladakh, Lahoul and Spiti. It is a 7 day tour with major landmark as Tso Moriri.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 01 : Leh/Chuma-Thang
drive 140 kms to reach Chuma-Thang (3965 M) known for its medicated hot water springs. O/N camping at Chuma-Thang.

Day 02 : Chuma_Thang - Sumdo
Drive just 40 kms with via Mahe bridge, Evening time visit Sumdo Gompa. O/N camping at Sumdo.

Day 03 : Sumdo - Karzok, Drive 43kms to reach Karzok (the nearest village around Tso Moriri), visit Karzok Gompa. O/N camping at the banks of the lake.

Day 04 : Excursion around the lake. O/N camping.

Day 05 : Karzok - Tso Khar
With a drive of 45 kms reach Tso khar. O/N camping at the banks of the lake.

Day 06 : Tso Khar - Leh
It is a drive of 150kms. O/N stay at Hotel in Leh.
