Pangong Tso

It is the highest lake in Ladakh situated at the altitude of 4300 mtrs. The lake is surrounded by giant peaks

that are well over 6400 mtrs. Pangong is situated 160 kms. from Leh. The drive begins with Thiksey village famous for its huge monasteries covering an entire mountain ridge. Beyond this remote village there is nothing but the extreme mountain ridge. Pangong Tso is 150 kms. long and only 4 kms. at its widest. Only the quarter of the lake is in India and the rest is in Tibet.

The area around the lake is of historical significance which has got small gompa and rock inscriptions believed to be 1000 years old. It also is a great place for photography and one can get to shoot the black necked Siberian crane around the Mahe marshes, which are the breeding ground for these migratory birds.

Drive takes you to the arid moonscape of Ladakh, crossing many high mountain passes. You can visit some of the remotest areas of Ladakh. It is a Nomadic area of tribe known " Changpas". They can be spotted in Rebos ( Yak wool tents) with the heards of yaks, Horses, goats & sheeps. Major highlight of this tour is excursion of Lake Pangong. Which is a life time experience in itself.The area around the lake is famous for Fossils, colorful stones & wild flowers. This tour also includes visit to various remote monestories like Chemra, Taktak, Durbuk & above all a visit to the richest & most famous gompa of Hemis.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 01 : Leh - Durbuk, drive 110 kms. O/n camping at Durbuk.

Day 02 : Durbuk - Lukung, Drive 100kms , enroute visit the village of Tangtse. O/N camping at Lukung.

Day 03 : Lukung - Pangong, It is a 60kms of drive. O/N camping at the banks of the lake.

Day 04 : Excursion of the lake. O/N camping.

Day 05 : Pangong - Tangtse, It is a beautiful drive of 90kms. O/N camping at Tangtse.

Day 06 : Tangtse - Changla, Enroute visit Durbuk gompa. O/N camping at Changla.

Day 07 : Changla - Leh, enroute visit famous Hemis Gompa
