Matho Gompa is located 27 kms from Leh & is the only gompa which represents the Saskyapa sect n Ladakh, the gompa has idyyllic setting but receives very less number of tourist due to its location which offroad from the main highway. There is one small Museum which has got collection four hundred year old Thangkas, costumes, masks, weapons & ritual grabs of Oracles .This 16th century gompa is famous for its annual Oracle festival(feb-mar) during which monks goes into trance & performs death defying strunts . The monks while performing these strunts get under the influence of Deities and make prophecies for the coming year.
