Kargil (2704 m)
204 kms west of Srinagar and 234 kms from Leh, is the second largest urban centre of Ladakh,Kargil was an important trading centre that links Ladakh with Gilgit.Kargil once served as important trade and transit centre in the Pan-Asian trade network. The town is dominated by Mosques where Arabic inscriptions can be seen all over.Being located in the centre of the Himalayan region with tremendous potentials for adventure activities, like trekking, mountaineering, camping, river rafting etc. It is also a base for taking shorter excursions to Mulbek where the chief attraction is a 9-m high rock sculpture. Kargil also offers some interesting walks along the river bank and up the hillside. The best among these is to Goma Kargil along a 2-km long winding road which, passing through some of the most picturesque parts of the town.which lies nestling along the rising hillside of the lower Suru basin. Two tributaries of the Suru River that meet here are the Drass and Wakha.

Mulbekh

It is a lovely green valley reached by Fatu La (4147 m) the highest pass between Leh & Srinagar. Mulbekh is known for its 8 mtrs. Chamba statue ( the image of future Buddha) which dates back to 700 A.D.It is probably the oldest representation of Buddha. Mulbekh divides Muslim Ladakh from Buddhist Ladakh. There are two more gompas SERDUNG and GANDENDTSE, which offer the great view of Warkha Valley. Like all Buddhists monasteries it is adorned by frescoes and statues.
