Ladakh, meaning "the Land of High Passes", is situated between the two highest mountain ranges in the world , the Himalayas to the south and the Karakoram to the north , it is india's most remote and sparsely populated region. Ladakh is surrounded by the GREAT HIMALAYAN RANGE and KARAKORAM RANGES including the snowpeaks of NUN(7135mts) and KUN(7087mts) which are the highest peaks of the Kashmir Himalayas. Ladakh was opened for tourist in 1974 & travelling in its remote regions of NUMBRA VALLEY, PANGONG TSO, TSO MORIRI & DHAN HANU is recently opened for travellers. This area has got close cultural & trading relations with Tibet and is described as " LITTLE TIBET". The earliest inhabitants of the region are nomadic tribe of KHAMPAS.
